The PowerExchange Logger issues this message when the last available active log data set is 75 percent full. The PowerExchange Logger reissues this message after each additional five percent of the remaining data set space is filled.
Several possible causes exist for the shortage of active log data set space:
Excessive logging, such as too many users requesting logs at the same time.
Delayed or slow off‑loading, caused by such things as the system operator failing to mount archive volumes, making incorrect replies to off‑load process messages, or using devices with slow device speeds.
Excessive use of the ARCHIVE_LOG command. Each time the ARCHIVE_LOG command is used, it causes the PowerExchange Logger to switch to a new active log data set and to initiate an off‑load of the previous active log. Although the ARCHIVE_LOG command is not run when only one active log data set remains in a copy of the active log, excessive use of the command could have consumed all space in the active log except for the current active log data set or sets.
Off‑load process failure. See additional information in the user response.
Insufficient active log space. See the additional information in the user response.
Each time it issues this message, the PowerExchange Logger tries to perform off‑load processing. If the off‑load process is successful, the PowerExchange Logger does not reissue this message. If the off‑load process is unsuccessful and if the cause of the failure is not corrected, the active log data space fills until it reaches capacity. The PowerExchange Logger then issues message PWXEDM172673I and halts all processing of changed data.
To clear this condition, you must either correct the problem that is causing the off‑load process to fail, or you must add more active log data sets:
To correct the off‑load failure condition, you must take the steps necessary to complete other waiting off‑load tasks. When an active log data set is made available or reusable by completing the off‑load process for it, PowerExchange logging activity can continue. Perform a display request to determine the outstanding requests related to the log off‑load process. Take the necessary action to satisfy any requests, and permit the off‑load process to continue. If the off‑load process fails to complete normally or cannot be initiated, notify the system programmer.
To add more data sets, you must stop the logging process, terminate the PowerExchange Logger, run the logger batch change utility to add new active log data sets, then restart the PowerExchange Logger.
