Creating an ASM User (ASM only)

Creating an ASM User (ASM only)

If you use ASM and plan to connect to an ASM instance to retrieve change data from ASM-managed Oracle redo logs, you must configure an ASM login user ID that has SYSDBA or SYSASM authority.
  • If you use Oracle 10.2.0.4 or later 10.2 patchset, use an Oracle database user that has SYSDBA authority.
    By default, Oracle 10.2.
    x
ASM does not allow connections from the Oracle listener on a database server. To prevent ASM connection errors, edit the listener.ora file on each node where you run PowerExchange Express CDC for Oracle to add an entry for the ASM instance. The ASM instance name is usually +ASM or +ASM
    n
    , where
    n
is a RAC node number. For example, to add the "+ASM1" instance for the Oracle instance named "MYORA1," include the following entry in the listener.ora file:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER_MYORA1 = (SID_LIST = (SID_DESC = (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc) (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/oracle/asm) (PROGRAM = extproc) ) (SID_DESC = (GLOBAL_DBNAME = MYORA1ASM) (SID_NAME = +ASM1) (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/oracle/asm) ) )
  • If you use Oracle 11.1.0.7 or later, create an ASM user and grant one of the following authority levels to that user:
    • SYSDBA
      In Oracle 11
      g
, you do not need to edit the listener.ora file, as you do with Oracle 10.2.
      x
ASM, because ASM allows connections from the Oracle listener by default.
    • SYSASM
To use SYSASM, you must also set the ASM_ASSYSASM parameter to Y in the READER statement of the PowerExchange Express CDC for Oracle configuration file, pwxorad.
For more information about creating an ASM user, see the
Oracle Automatic Storage Management Administrator's Guide
